Thus, whereas an air-source unit would struggle to cool your home on the coldest winter days, a ground-source unit will have no such problem. Furthermore, ground-source heat pumps can be up to 600% efficient. Thus, they are the better value for your money. The disadvantages of a ground-source unit are that they cost more to  install and require sufficient yard space to contain the coils. On the other hand, the federal government offers tax credits, which can help to offset the cost of a ground-source, or geothermal heat pump.
